Shrink wrap is a fairly adaptable multipurpose packaging material.
It has revolutionised not only the packaging industry but can also be utilised for containment, safety, and security.
As it has the ability to create an air-tight barrier when it is exposed to heat, shrink wrap is used by a variety of industries, manufacturers, and shippers – as well as by banks and governments.
Shrink wrap is varied by transparency, thickness and strengths meaning its applications are almost endless. This material isn’t limited to large or small jobs, it can wrap an entire building.
Shrink wrap used in packaging
Shrink wrap has other applications and uses in the packaging industry, including:
- Securing boxes
- Keeping canned goods and drinks unitised
- Providing extra security and tamper-evident seals
- Wrapping palette loads (both protecting the items and protecting the from the weather)
In these types of applications, the packagin material is usually applied with industrial shrink wrapping machines that apply heat directly from the assembly line conveyors in a heat tunnel or oven.
Heat guns, that are handheld, can also be used to tighten and seal the material.
